POPULATION GROWTH: OVERLOAD!
Surrounded By A Sea Of Sorrow
The newly wed couple, Timmy and Janie, decided that it was high time they got out of the city, and into a remote tropical paradise. So they moved out to a remote tropical island, thinking that they were finally achieving their long-hoped for dream. A dream of peace, of luxery, of happiness.
When Timmy and Janie arrived at the island, they saw that it was not very big; only a ten acres, or so.
"Lovely!" exclaimed Janie, admiring her new surroundings, gazing upon all the exquisite, marvelous, looming trees that so welcomingly greeted her. "Just perfect. We can build our house right here!" she planted her foot on a particularly soft spot of sand, and extended her long, slender finger downwards.
"Wonderful." said Timmy, and with that, they got to work building. After a few days of sweat, tears, hyperventalation, and industrious labor, Timmy and Janie were finally done building their new house.
"Let's go inside!" said Timmy excitedly. All of a sudden, the house started to shake violently. If you were to stand outside the house, you would probably hear muffled Oohs, Aahs, and Is it stuck?s.
So nine months later, out popped Timmy Jr.
Timmy Jr. had that of a lonely childhood. His only friends were monkeys, who also served as his classmates. But overall, I suppose you could say he had a happy childhood, nonetheless, because he could never tell the difference.
But as he got older, he started to get...inquisitive. He started asking questions, like "What's that?", "How does this work?", "Why is the sky blue?" and "Why do I feel so funny...down there?" His mother didn't quite know how to respond.
But, one day, when Timmy Jr. was hanging out down by the shore, he spotted a bottle floating toward him, containing a message--no, a magazine!
Timmy walked over and retrieved the piece of literature from the water. He read the title: Playboy.
As Timmy began to read this mysterious new magazine, he started to get ideas. Weird ideas, funny ideas, even some naughty ones! So he went for a walk. And on his walk, he ran into Beatrice, a girl monkey whom he had earlier befriended.
Suddenly, he thought back to his new and greatly admired magazine, and got an idea...
And nine months later, Beatrice Jr. was born.
Now, a similar cycle continued on the island for the next few generations. But as time went on, things began to change... There were hardly any trees left, and food and water supply was running low. Everyone on the island wanted food and shelter, and with all the new babies coming in from the island's restless inhabitants, there were just not enough recourses to go around.
Timmy and Janie were old geezers now, and they sat on the sea shore, overlooking the vast, colorful sunset. They glanced behind them, only to notice with much dismay that all the lush and scrumptious trees that greeted them many years ago when they first came to the island, were now only stumps--dry, brown stumps.
"It's getting harder to breath." complained Janie.
"And I haven't eaten in days." answered Timmy.
And from then on, people all around the remote island began to drift off to sleep...and never woke up.
Remember this island--the island of Timmy and Janie. And think about it--just think. Where have you heard this story before?
